Ms. Zipporah’s Pen – The Heart That Writes!
More About Ms. Zipporah

Hi, I’m Ms. Zipporah…
Writer. Creator of Ms. Zipporah’s Pen.
In The Beginning …
My imagination has always been a source of entertainment for my family and close friends. By age two, I had mastered a gift I still treasure – memorizing people, places, and things. Folks thought I could read at three. Really, I was just curious about everything.
“Mommy, what’s that?”
Mom would explain every building on the strip. I would repeat it back during our outings. People would stare in amazement.
“Oh my, that baby can read!”
We had them fooled. Mom and I should have taken our act on the road. There goes my humorous side again smiling.
Sesame Street, The Electric Company, and my mother planted storytelling and the love of learning in me early. Something about finishing a crossword puzzle without looking at the back page for answers impressed me. She had skills! Mom was also an avid reader and writer, always holding a pen or pencil. Watching her, I learned to write my alphabets and recite words long before Kindergarten.
By first grade, Cursive and I were in a full-blown relationship. Words flowing from my mind and heart onto paper felt like magic. I’ve carried a love for the pen since.
Letters, Summers, and the Power of the Pen
Every summer, leaving Washington, North Carolina, I’d wave goodbye and promise, “I’ll write you when I get back.” And I did. Writing at ten years old gave me comfort, purpose, and gratitude for the skill I learned.
Some never wrote back. I reasoned, maybe they were busy. Maybe they forgot. Maybe writing wasn’t their thing. (I still can’t imagine.) But, when I returned the next summer, we picked up right where we left off swapping stories, recapping adventures, never missing a beat.
“Welcome back! LOVED your letter. Thank you for writing me!”
They did read them.
My time, my feelings, my borrowed stamps, my ink-less pens were appreciated.
The epiphany:
It wasn’t about me.
My writing made people feel seen, remembered, valued.
That’s when I realized the power of the pen. . . A GIFT I didn’t recognize until years later.
Now, I accept that gift with honor. “There’s more happiness in giving than receiving…” – a truth I love and live regularly. And from that moment on, I did what I was born to do.
(In my Forrest Gump voice) “I was writing.”
When I’m Not Writing…
You’ll find me:
- Reading
- Solving a problem
- Laughing until it hurts (or making others laugh until they hurt)
- Spending time with the people I love
- Volunteering with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community
- Listening to old-school music
- Watching reruns of Monk or Psych
- Eating sunflower seeds
My Writer’s Tip…

My Writer’s Tip…
My tools are simple but essential:
- Pen: Rollerball, .05 needle, Bick Fine point in blue. Red or Purple on occasion. Black for legal matters.
- Notebooks: Spiral for notes. Focus for journaling.
How do you recognize an artisan? By their tools. Writers are no different. A favorite pen and notepad should always be within reach ~ The Keep app for those on the go. Inspiration rarely announces itself. Being prepared eliminates excuses. I’ve lost too many ideas by not being ready.
My cousin, an author, once shared, “I keep a pen and notepad on my nightstand. The best ideas show up in the middle of the night.”
Good advice.
